Yokoso! Shiyuki stocks beauty products so get your supply of face masks, shampoos and nail colours.  They also carry homeware such as bowls and cups.  Hate having to share the room with your annoying lil’ sister?  Get a room divider!

Prices range from RM1 to RM250 - if that’s not easy on your wallet well, I don’t know what is!  So the next time you’re in 1 Utama, drop by Lot G17 (it’s in the old wing) for some super kawaii stuff.

Chuck ‘em in your basket: At least one of these cute dolls and beauty accessories.

LV hearts Michelle
Tuesday, 24/11/2009

If you get a chance to head over to Singapore, check out the newly improved Louis Vuitton store at Ngee Ann City on Orchard Road. The duplex interior façade features the brand’s signature copper colour in Damier pattern but the highlight of the store is definitely on the second floor. Head to the spiral staircase and you will see a glass chandelier of over 4 meters wide and 8 meters tall! The design is a remarkable collaboration with international star Michelle Yeoh and the Malletier’s architecture team, where she has given ideas and inspiration to create a refined apartment-like interior. Definitely worth checking out!

Chanel gets a facelift
Monday, 23/11/2009

I was just over at Chanel’s newly-renovated beauty boutique at 1 Utama and I can tell you one thing – I’m lovin’ it! The new look screams ‘Chanel’ from all angles, with the interior and display making it a breeze to pick out new makeup colours or find a new fave among the fragrance lineup.

The Foundation Bar allows you to get your correct shade of foundation in your preferred texture while the Fragrance Bar includes Les Exclusifs section; featuring 12 types of Chanel perfumes in 200ml bottles. You can find your perfect red at the Lip Bar and just about everything you need to glam up at the Makeup Library Wall. There’s also a Skincare Consultation Area right next to the Skincare Bar, where you can play up bare skin without having to worry about people seeing your face in its original state!

I couldn’t help picking up a bottle of Chance Chanel Eau Fraiche (so I can use it on top of the body cream to make the scent last longer) and the Eye Makeup Remover that is so amazing, I wish I had discovered it sooner! It’s non-oily, hydrating and works great on lips too – removing lipgloss without giving me that icky feeling nor making the cotton stick to my lips. Try applying lipstick after using it, you’ll see how the colour will simply glide because it’s that smooth – and when I nibbled on a cinnamon cookie that was made to look like a Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow, the colour didn’t wear off either.

If you’re looking for new additions to your makeup kit, I can only say you’ll feel right at home here. I spent a good two hours testing and picking out stuff (including trying seven red lippies) and I must say, the beauty advisors are very helpful, patient and ever-willing to make any lady who walks in look and feel good!

Spotted, scented, stunned!
Wednesday, 04/11/2009

This month, we take you behind the scenes at a fragrance shoot.

That’s how many we received before coming down to our final 42! It sure was a tough call picking our favourites from the lot.

Senior Designer Kathy had to wear surgical gloves to make sure her thumbprints weren’t caught on camera!

Salvador Dali’s It Is Love stands out as a quirky golden bottle and the detachable studded ring fits my finger oh-so-perfectly!

To see the final spread, check out Female’s July 2009 issue!

Tattoo invasion!
Wednesday, 04/11/2009

For those who have never heard of Ed Hardy…(seriously, where have you been?). Judging by the crowd's response during the launch of its flagship store in KLCC last month (April 2009), you can be sure that its founder, the 'king of jeans' a.k.a. Le Vif, (the 'fast one' in French) Christian Audigier, hit all the right notes - the crowd was rowdy, gregarious and most of all .... they had F-U-N. Audigier's designs utilises plenty of groovy tattoos, from plain downright cheeky to gothic with a touch of rock 'n roll, all paying tribute to the rebel with a cause - the king of tattoos, Ed Hardy himself. Even Hollywood is smitten with Ed, from the likes of Britney, Madonna, Jessica Alba, Paris Hilton and Leonardo Dicaprio to rapper Kanye West! It's positively, a cult. When at the store, you must must check out their signature tees, denim wear, hoodies, caps and accessories for men, women and children.

Long live the King!
Wednesday, 04/11/2009

The King of Pop is no longer with us, but it doesn’t mean he’ll no longer be remembered. Shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti created a pair of Swarovski crystals studded boots for the King to be used in his tour planned for London. Unfortunately, Michael never had a chance to slip them on, so Zanotti donated it to the Amfar Gala Dinner recently during Milan Fashion Week. So how much did the ‘Rainbow Boot’ go for? Ten thousand Euros! We must say… it’s worth every penny!

Cute as a bottle
Friday, 23/10/2009

These cute-sy looking bottles were recently created for the Coca-Cola Light “Tribute to Fashion” event. These bottles were dressed by eight designers shown on the catwalk in the Palazzo Reale courtyard and later auctioned off at Sotheby’s. The bottles featured all of Moschino’s iconic elements: the flamenco dancer, the bow, the clouds in the sky and the Contour – dipped in chocolate!

Shoes, glorious shoes
Friday, 16/10/2009

We spotted Mischa Barton, Charlize Theron and Marion Cotillard in the latest Dior ‘Comma’ heels! What's so special about these shoes? If you look closely, the heel is curved like a Persian dagger while the moulded metal ring resembles oriental adornments! Now that’s well-heeled!

Why buy? RENT!
Wednesday, 30/09/2009

We’re super-excited about the launch of www.bagsinthecity.com.my, an online designer handbag rental service that's already famous all over the world! So what is it exactly? Remember renting videos in a video store? Well, it’s almost like that, except you’re renting designer handbags over the internet. All you have to do is shop online, select the handbag you want to rent, pay the rent with your credit card on a secure payment page and the bag will be delivered right to your doorstep! You can rent the item for as long as you want and the rent rises with every week you possess the bag; a rental fee will be deducted from your credit card until the bag is returned. If you love it so much and can’t part with it, you can buy the bag! Don’t worry about getting a fake-y, ‘cause all the bags are 100 percent certified authentic. So what are you waiting for, make those fingers work NOW!

Unfashionably Facebook-ed!
Friday, 25/09/2009

These days, having a Facebook account is like getting a pair of ankle booties or buying into the '80s revival; it's what any self-professed fashionista calls a trend worth signing up for. However, as with any trend, there's a right way and a wrong way to wear it. Unfortunately, as with any trend (I'm repeating myself for effect, here), most people have been getting it wrong. Today, I'm griping about one of the biggest Facebook No-Nos: Putting up a picture of someone without getting their permission first. I had it done to me sometime in mid-July; one very friendly lady whom I always meet at fashion events and never fails to say 'hello' had invited me and a couple of others to take a group photograph with her camera. I thought "oh well, this is quite harmless, and most people like taking snapshots of themselves and aquaintances at events for memories anyway". Little did I think that the picture would appear on her Facebook page the very next day, for all the world to see where I was, who I've been with, what I was wearing and looking very much like this lady and I are the best of friends! To each his own, I say, so other people can go ahead and Facebook every minute detail of their lives, but leave me out of the account please! I may have nothing to hide but I'm a private person; I don't need to see and be seen for social purposes and I certainly don't like people using pictures of me without my permission. A friend of mine also had such a rude encounter recently; her photograph appeared on another Facebook-happy party-goer's wall even after the culprit was clearly told NOT to paste the pictures online. I think it's just rude! I mean, it's wrong to publish unauthorised photographs of people in newspapers or magazines, so why is putting it up on Facebook any different? I know several Facebook-ers who pull off this trend (for that's what I think it is) with class, that it, without bombarding everyone on their email list with every insignificant detail of their lives, respecting personal boundaries and yet, keeping in touch with those who matter.

Beauty wonderland
Monday, 21/09/2009

The next time you pop by Singapore, make sure you head to the newly-opened Sephora at new mall ION, just above the Orchard MRT. It’s massively decked out with more beauty products than you can ever think of, you’d have to spare a few hours checking out everything they have, literally! 10 reasons why I love the new Sephora: 1. There’s no better address to have the store at. 2. It’s bigger, better and more complete than the one at Ngee Ann City. 3. There’s a complete M.A.C counter at the left side of the entrance, and your usual selection of makeup brands inside. 4. The colourful collection of bath and body products make me happy just by looking at them! 5. It carries international cult brands such as Smashbox (which we now have!), i.d. bareMinerals and Burt’s Bees aside from Sephora’s in-house brand. 6. There’s a Beauty Bar where anyone can just stroll in for a quick doll-up sesh! 7. The store’s assistants won’t bug your personal time exploring the whole place, so you can take your time trying out that funky mascara or bold lipstick and painting your nails without anyone breathing down your neck! 8. A list of Top 10 Male and Female fragrances are updated frequently, so you know just what to look out for. 9. Sephora’s very own spa is in the works, and is opening very soon! 10. If you’re a beauty junkie, you’ll leave the store feeling euphoric and usually, clutching a shopping bag and with a smile on your face. The new Sephora is located at ION Orchard, 2 Orchard Turn #01-05/06, Singapore 238801.

Lookin’ hawt!
Friday, 18/09/2009

OMG! I’m super excited about theBalm’s arrival in Malaysia. The American brand has been around for a while but it’s just landed on our shores, all thanks to SaSa. I don’t usually carry makeup around, except for my trusty ol’ lipgloss, but the ones from theBalm are just too cute to be left on my vanity dresser! The packaging makes great conversation pieces, so whip one out the next time you’re on a ridiculously boring date. My favourites? BalmShelter Lip Gloss with SPF17 (it smells delish!) and Hot Mama (blush, shadow and highlighter, all in one!).

Pure indulgence!
Thursday, 17/09/2009

Have you seen common beauty ingredients like shea butter, sandalwood, soy and cinnamon in their purest forms? That was just what I witnessed on display during Pureology’s recent launch – yes, I got to see, touch and smell them raw! If you don’t already know, Pureology is an award-winning Californian brand that has been around since 2001 and focuses on caring for coloured hair. I say it’s about time they landed here! I have personally been using the shampoo, conditioner, serum and mask for nearly a month now, and I can safely say that they add that much-needed salon-touch to my coloured hair while giving it a lingering scent, thanks to the natural botanical extracts and aromatherapy essences. Want to give Pureology a try? Call 03-7727 2214 to find out where you can get the goodies!

Art attack!
Wednesday, 19/08/2009

Beauty workshops aren’t all about dolling up faces, as Lancôme shows us during a recent event.

Who knew that Lancôme’s foundation workshop could be so much fun? It was actually a play-art session in disguise! At Lancôme, it is believed that foundation is one of the most important aspects of makeup. It serves as a blank canvas on which the rest of colour makeup is applied and the base to accentuate and play down a person’s best and worst facial features. The mini workshop was held to introduce Lancôme’s ‘Power of 4’ system; using only four face makeup products (namely foundation, concealer, loose powder and blusher) to achieve a natural, flawless look. Lancôme’s National Makeup Artist and team leader for the Colour Design Artists, Zamri Zainol demonstrated the system on a model, while we doodled away on our blank canvases using a series of ‘art supplies’ in the form of foundation, concealer, blusher, lipgloss, mascara and more, to create what we could now proudly call our masterpieces!

Interested to experience Lancôme’s ‘Power of 4’ foundation consultation and services using the new Maquiliquide UV Infinité? Head on to a Lancôme beauty counter nearest you today.

Just plain selekeh!
Monday, 17/08/2009

As lifestyle journalists, we at female attend many events in the course of our work. More often than not these are fashion events where some guests are dressed to kill, while others veer towards overkill. However, rarely do we see a plunge in the other direction to the level of shabbi-ness. One such occasion comes to mind. I won't name the event, but here's a brief description of the attendees, mostly members of the media: greasy hair and face, crumpled shirts, unclean appearances, and an overall rumpled look. I relayed my disappointment to a friend and here's her take on the situation: "There needs to be some investment in how you look. To put it bluntly, faded shirts just don't cut it, regardless of what event you are attending. If you are attending a work event, you should be dressed accordingly. You are not spending a day out at the zoo with the family. The media is such a powerful instrument. Realise and be proud of the part you play in dictating the rhythm of everyday living. You have a hand in how people think and dress and what they buy and how perceive things and this is the way you dress? Good grief!".
