Poesy Liang, this year’s Her World Woman of the Year recipient, has been recognised for her humanitarian efforts with Helping Hands, a Facebook community that she set up while the Her World Young Achiever, Juana Jaafar is an activist who has been vocal and untiring in empowering the youth.  Both these ladies received an award plaque from Christofle, a Bedat & Co watch, a set of Lancome skincare and a Tumi bag.

The cocktail hour before for the main event saw many successful professionals from various industries networking or just catching up with old friends.

During the sit-down dinner, two videos, produced by KBU International College, were shown of previous winners as well as that of the current winners sharing their experiences.

Throughout the evening our guests were pleasantly entertained; and even awed, as they watched the amazingly fluid opening act by Viva Vertical where aerial acrobatics were performed by skilled young ladies while suspended from a special flexible fabric attached to the ceiling.

Later, Ning Baizura, well-known for her powerful voice, belted out a couple of beautiful Whitney Houston numbers; then the evening ended with a lovely rendition of Adele’s “Someone Like You” by the very talented 8-year-old, Crystal Lee. Guests went home with a Lancome goodie bag and a copy of the magazine.

Cocktails and canapés were served before they were invited into the store where Antoine Bakhache, the Managing Director of Bakhache Luxuries, gave a brief background on Truefitt & Hill and introduced the services available.

Our readers were looking cooler than Bond himself, after trying the pampering services such as hair cut, wet shave, shoe polishing and mani-pedi. To top off the experience, they also enjoyed a special offer on purchases made on that day, including treatment vouchers.

Part of being confident is the ability to be in control of a situation. To help readers with this, Shamir, Master Trainer of KickOut, taught readers simple yet effective self-defense techniques to help them take action in a dangerous situation, without the need to punch or kick.

Daryl and Joachim from SKINS got readers all excited during the question-and-answer session where they also gave away a pair of SKINS Powersox.

After refreshments and welcome notes from Calvin Ho, General Manager of Lost World of Tambun, and Eric Chan and Sam Tan from GILA Tribe, they were organized into groups and the activities commenced. They set up camp, showered, had an unplugged session, and were taught how to light a campfire before ending the day at the hot springs. They thought the first day was rather relaxed, but had no idea what was in store the next morning!

It was get go from the moment they were woken up at 5am — jog, sprint and push-ups for an hour followed by three grueling hours of hiking in Gua Datuk and the 6th mile tunnel. After breakfast, there were more team building activities – the 13 high-rope course, Flying Fox and Leap of Faith — till way past lunch time.

Needless to say, the ride back to the hustle and bustle of the city was a rather quiet one! Many were fast asleep after the exhausting adrenaline pumping weekend, thanks to the programme planned by the GILA Tribe. Redken, SunPlay and Adidas also provided wonderful goodies for the men to take home. “Worth the trip and every drop of sweat! What an adventure!” — best summed up the weekend!
