Technique, Tips & Tricks

Our male readers also had the benefit of a running clinic to prepare them for the much-anticipated Men’s Health Night Run presented by GNC Live Well. Raj Subramaniam, Master Trainer and his assistant, Ivy Wong from FitnessRUs helped prep them with running drills and techniques to help runners run faster, more efficiently, place less stress on the body, and at the same time, reduce the risk of injury. He reminded the readers that the right running posture is to keep your back straight, arms tucked near your body, feet close together and toes pointing forward.

Raj also took them through proper breathing techniques: “Many amateur runners unconsciously hold their breath when running, which is something that you should not do”. Raj had them first walk, then jog and finally run a short lap to consciously correct their running and breathing techniques. The running drills help strengthen specific muscle groups, especially those in the lower body for a more powerful run.

Of course, no instructional session on injuries would be complete without a lesson on treatment and prevention, so Raj also taught participants about the RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation) method.

After a one-and-a-half hour session of the clinic, each participant walked away with a goodie bag consisting a pair of Skechers GOrunTM shoes and a Skechers t-shirt worth a total RM448. With sufficient energy from Yogood muesli bars, readers went home, beaming from ear to ear, and ready for the Men’s Health Night Run presented by GNC Live Well!
